Seriously. I have red hair and a beard. What did you expect?

This pic has been making the rounds as part of a meme out there, and I tracked down the original of it to Synnimaru on DeviantArt.  The quality of the work is impressive, and just confirms my belief that there's a lot of good art out there that might go unnoticed if not for sites like DeviantArt (such as the art I highlighted on the MMO blog I share with Deftig concerning Breast Cancer Awareness Month).

(Click on the pic for the original size; it's worth it.)

Anyhoo, I can pick out some of the stuff there --Harry Potter, Pooh, Matthias (from Redwall), The Last Unicorn, a spider web from Charlotte's Web, Dorothy from the Oz books, Sephira (from Eregon)-- but I don't know all of the references.  I suspect that the gold mini dragon is a fire lizard from the Pern novels, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, if people can pick stuff out and post them in the comments, I'd appreciate it!

Oh, I love this! I'd love to have a magnification app of some kind so I could read all the spines. I see Jurrasic Park, Dune, all the Harry Potter books, Eragon, Memoirs of a Geisha...so many! So cool.

You know, I was so happy to see The Fundamentals of Physics just above The Art of War that I didn't notice the One Ring perched on the end of the book.

One thing I did was to save the original locally, and then open it up in Windows Photo Viewer. There's a slide on the bottom left side that you can use to zoom in a bit before the image gets too pixelated.

Do you suppose the man in the auburn/brown overcoat is Willy Wonka?

yeah, I'd say that's Willy Wonka; W on tie and candy bar in mouth.

Oooh! I think it might be. Let's just say it is. Look for candy in his pockets! :)

I didn't see the one ring either. D'oh!

Oh, yes! It is Willy Wonka because that's an Oompa Loompa sitting on his stack of books!!

Stinky Cheese Man is running along the top!

And yes, there is so much good art that never gets seen. Same for stories. Gatekeepers. Who chooses the gatekeepers?

So THAT's what that is. I was wondering what that cylinder was...

The true shame is that it doesn't look like prints of the art are for sale. I'd buy a poster sized print.

Yes, it is! Check out all the titles on the shelves, too! I keep finding new ones!

Toto is sitting in Dorothy's lap. The March Hare from Alice in Wonderland.
I don't know if it's just the artist's style or what, but the man on the ladder looks like something out of a Miyazaki movie. but I don't recognize the little green-haired person on the books he's holding. OK, Willy Wonka, it is.
Did you see the Three Blind Mice on the bookshelf on the left?

Oh, I missed the significance of the mice!
